Should College Athletes be Paid? By: Luke Ponko James Wiseman, a top tier basketball player, who is an undoubted first round draft pick in next years NBA draft, had gotten in trouble due to an NCAA violation that he didn’t know occurred. The Wiseman family received around 11,500 dollars in moving expenses in order to move to Tennessee, where Hardaway wanted Wiseman to play high school basketball in order for Wiseman to be persuaded to commit to Memphis. Unknown by Wiseman, the family accepted the money, moved to Tennessee, and Wiseman played high school there and eventually committed to Memphis, due to the persuasion of Hardaway. However, due to the violation of NCAA rules, Wiseman received a ban from playing because of the money from Hardaway. This caused a major debate and Wiseman filed for a lawsuit, receiving a temporary restraint in order to play the first game of Memphis’ season.
