My family History
My Family History
My family has been in America for a very long time now. My first ancestors came from Poland and Germany many years ago. Years later, myparents were both born in Michigan, my dad in Ludington and my mom in Novi. They spent all of their childhood years in Michigan, and excelled in athletics, my dad especially, and my mom excelled in music. After their high school years, my dad started college at Miami of Ohio, and my mom started at Western Michigan University. After a few years, they both switched to colleges in New York. My dad to New York University, and my mom to New York School of Music. While in New York, they met and eventually got married. They moved back to Michigan and then to Lincoln Park in Chicago, where they had my sister and I. When I was around three, we moved to Wilmette, where my parents had my brother and we eventually moved to Kenilworth where I currently reside.
My dad grew up a little below middle class, in a smaller house in Ludington. He remembers going to pick many different kinds of fruit in the summer to make extra money for his family. He always wore hand-me-down clothes from his dad, and never got new clothing. He specifically remembers having to work a lot in the summer in order for him to go to China with his high school basketball team, and always came home swearing from the hard labor. However, he continued to study and work hard, never giving up and got into a good college and eventually got a good job, was careful with his money, and was fortunate enough to become a more affluent person.

Nice post, Luke! Do you think your family story is like the "straight-line assimilation" story we read in the article last week?
ReplyDeleteFrom George:“Great post Luke! Its really interesting how your father was able to achieve a better quality of life through hard work and an education. In that sense he is the embodiment of the “American Dream” and as Mr. Lawler mentioned “Straight-line Assimilation”.”
